Cold whipped body butter with shea butter and essential oils
This simple recipe makes a nourishing body butter made with natural ingredients.
Shea Butter is a wonderful ingredient in body butters, balms and creams. It gives a protective and nourishing feeling that is suitable for dry, and irritated skin that needs moisture and softness. Shea butter is also naturally rich in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory substances.
A basic recipe is around 75% Shea Butter and 25% vegetable oils. If you add essential oils, you also get the skin-care properties of the essential oils and a lovely scent to your Body Butter.
Recipe ca 300 g
225 g Shea butter
75 g Vegetal almond oil
10 g Cornstarch (optional for a more dry feeling)
1.5 g Vitamin E, antioxidant
3 g (ca 60 drops) Essential oil
In this recipe I have used Frankincense, Geranium and Bergamot.
How to
Weigh the shea butter into a bowl.
Add the vegetable oil
Put in the electric whisk and whisk a little slower at first, then on full power for around a minute.
Add the antioxidant, any essential oils and possibly cornstarch.
Whisk on full power for a couple of minutes. How much volume the Body Butter gets depends on the power of the whisk and how long you whisk. The fluffier the body butter, the greater its volume.
Scoop it into suitable jars, such as brown glass jars.
Now your body butter should rest to solidify. It takes up to a day before it reaches its final firmness.
Body Butter will gain more volume when whipped.
300 g of whipped Body Butter fills approximately 3 120 ml brown glass jars.
