Wahiba Sands Desert
Sharqiya desert invites to witness the most incredible sunsets, and the night sky is as taken from a one thousand and one nights story, with the mystic silence that speaks for itself.
Al Sharqiya Sands, also known as the Wahiba Sands, was in the very beginning home to the Bedouins of Bani Wahiba Tribe. The name arises from the Arabic word bedu, meaning desert dweller.
About 3000 bedouins from various tribes still live a traditional nomadic life in the constantly moving desert sands.
Sharqiya Sands is located between Muscat and Sur and extends to 180 km from north to south.
The rolling dunes here are pushed by the winds to heights of up to 100 meters.
It reaches the Arabian Sea so there is rich wildlife to be found including arts such as gazelle, mongoose, and migrant bird populations.
